Florence Barton Funeral Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Florence L. Barton, 65, of Rt. 1, Sterling, will be conducted 10 a.m., Monday from the Christ United Methodist Church, the Rev. Kenneth M. Smith officiating.

Burial will be followed in Riverside cemetery.

Mrs. Barton died Wednesday in Weslaco, Tex.

She was born July 3, 1908 in Winterset, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Alice King Ruth. She moved to a homestead in the Kelley community in 1910 with her parents and received her elementary schooling in Kelley and graduated from Sterling High School in 1927.

She attended college in Greeley and taught school for three years in the Kelley area.

She married Charles E. Barton, June 29, 1929, in Greeley and the couple farmed in the Kelley area until 1964. During the past five years the couple have spent the winter months in Weslaco, Tex.

Mrs. Barton was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Olive Branch Rebekah Lodge No. 27, the L.A.P.M. and L.E.A. branches of the Rebekah Lodge, past president of the Rebekah Assembly of Colorado (1966-1967) and a member of the Women’s Society of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Barton of Sterling; four sons, Mardell Barton of Berthoud, Maurice Barton, Jerry Barton and Ronald Barton, all of Sterling; a daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Dorn of Sterling; a brother, Merwin Ruth of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Jeanette Grauberger of Fleming and 12 grandchildren.
