THERE IS NO VISITATION

Ronald Dean Bierma, age 86, passed away early on the morning of October 6, 2014. He was born on January 19, 1928 in Truro, Iowa to Henry and Gladys (Youmans) Bierma. He was raised on the family farm along with his elder sister Dorthea and younger brother Clyde, graduating from Winterset High School. He excelled in music, particularly the trumpet. He continued his education at Kletzing College and Iowa State University.

Ron was united in marriage to Marcia Collins of University Park on August 14, 1950. He was drafted into the Army in March of 1951 and served in the 1st Medium Tank Battalion of the 1st Armored Division based in Fort Hood, Texas.
After being honorably discharged from the Army, he began writing Farm Bureau Insurance. He and Marcia then moved to Denison where he started his own agency with the Banker’s Life Insurance Company.

In 1958 they welcomed their beloved son Ronald Scott.

Ron was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Denison. He served on the Board of Elders, as a Deacon, taught Sunday school classes, and sang in the church choir.

Ron was also active in the community, serving in the local Rotary International Chapter as secretary, vice-president, and president; ultimately being named a Paul Harris Fellow. In addition he was past president of the Community Chest, a member of the American Legion, the Arts Council Board, and the Tree Committee.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include Marcia, his wife of sixty-four years; his son and daughter-in-law Ron Scott and Lisa; his grandson Michael Henry; brother Clyde; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2014 at the United Presbyterian Church in Denison, Iowa with Rev. Paul Seefeldt officiating. Music for the service was provided by Dr. Rose Mary Mason playing violin solos “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” and “Now Thank We All Our God”, Robert Lyons singing solos “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus Loves Me”, the United Presbyterian Chancel Choir singing “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “This Is My Father’s World” and the congregation singing “How Great Thou Art” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” with Ann Voggesser serving as organist. Military honors were provided by the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa and Father Paul Kelly playing Taps. After the service everyone was invited to remain at the church for fellowship and brunch provided and served by the United Presbyterian Women.
