ROBERT DALE LYTTON, Ankeny, Iowa

Robert Dale Lytton, 62, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away Friday, September 5, 2014 at Mercy Hospital surrounded by his family. Robert was born on September 12, 1951 to Dale and Gertrude (Johnson) Lytton. He grew up in Truro, Iowa and graduated from Interstate 35 High School in 1969. Robert was an alumnus of Northwest Missouri State University class of 1974, and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. Robert moved to Des Moines and married Sharon Hoff November 4, 1983. He lived in Ankeny with Sharon and raised three daughters.

As a young man Robert was an Eagle Scout, enjoyed hunting with his dad and brothers, playing baseball, and was an avid Cardinals fan. He developed a love for wood working, genealogy, as well as being a master gardener. Robert retired from the Iowa Department of Public Safety State Patrol Garage as an Electronic Technician. Robert volunteered a lot of his time mowing Powell Cemetery and repairing headstones in Madison County. He also regularly gave blood and was a Silver donor. Upon his death he was an organ and tissue donor.

One of Robert's greatest loves was his seven grandchildren; Ilyssa, Kaley, Dylan, Nicholas, Logen, Hannah, and Lucas. He attended many of their school events, helped with school projects and taught many of the kids how to drive. He always made time to spend with them whether it be fishing or building a sudden tree house. He spent countless hours with them and their "Gramps" will be truly missed.

Robert is loved and missed by his wife, Sharon, and daughters Heidi (Tim) Stolp and Melinda (Lance) LeFurge all of Ankeny; brothers and sister Gary (Janet) Lytton, Dennis (Brenda) Lytton, Crystal (Vince) Proudfoot and Russell (Lisa) Lytton; step mother Jeri Lytton; seven grandchildren, and nieces and nephews Tessa, Jordan, Cheyenne, Caitlin, Stella and Jude . Robert was preceded in death by his parents Dale and Gertrude Lytton and daughter Amy Hohenshell. He will be greatly missed by those that were fortunate to have been part of his life.

It was Robert's wish to be cremated and a private service will take place at the Ankeny Memorial Gardens. All donations on Robert's behalf can be made to your local food pantry.
