Mabel Margaret King, Waukee

Mabel Margaret (Dooley) King, 100, passed away April 8, 2014 at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Irish Settlement in Cumming, IA with burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass.

Mabel was born June 25, 1913 to George and Goldie Dooley. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. Patrick's Church in Cumming. She attended rural school in Lee Township, Madison County and St. Joseph Assumption Churchville High School. Mabel furthered her education at Simpson College and the State Teacher's College. She taught in the rural schools in Madison County. Mabel and Vincent King were united in marriage August 12, 1943. They were instrumental in the development and farming operation of the Living History Farms for 33 years, where they resided until their retirement. She was Treasurer of the National Corn Huskers for eight years and was a member of St. Boniface Church in Waukee.

Mabel is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Dooley of Martensdale and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; six siblings, George, Sister Mary Shelia OSF, John, Clarence, Mary Catherine Pierce, and Francis; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Mabel's wishes, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Boniface Church, 1200 Warrior Lane, Waukee, IA 50263 Attn: El Salvador/Mabel King Memorial or St. Patrick's Irish Settlement in Cumming.
