R. BRUCE “JULIO” LEPARD, WINTERSET, IOWA

R. Bruce “Julio” LePard, 72, of Winterset, Iowa, died Saturday, Mar. 29, 2014, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, Apr. 4, at the Fireman’s Hall (Winterset Fire Department) in Winterset with Pastor Joel Nau officiating. As per his request, his body has been cremated.

Bruce was born on Dec. 2, 1941, at Des Moines, Iowa, to Burton and Thelma (Jordan) LePard. He grew up in the Urbandale area and was a graduate of Urbandale High School. He was married to Susan Elizabeth Lakin on Mar. 30, 1962, at Des Moines, Iowa. Bruce started working for the telephone company at a young age and retired as a manager from US West Telephone Company in 1990. He then worked for small telecommunication companies throughout the area. Bruce and Sue had been residents of Winterset for many years. “Julio” had also served as a member of the Winterset Fire Department for 34 years before retiring from that organization.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Susan LePard of Winterset; children, Jane E. (Joe) Copeland of East Moline, Ill., and Robert D. LePard of Winterset; sister, Patricia Owen of Dothan, Ala.; grandchildren, Sara (Jeff) Cutkomp, Anna Copeland, Mary Copeland, and Blake LePard; and great-grandchildren, Callie Cutkomp and Aria Cutkomp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Thelma (Jordan) LePard; brothers, Donald LePard, and Gilbert LePard; and infant sister, Delores LePard.

Family will receive friends one hour prior to service time on Friday at the Fireman’s Hall (Winterset Fire Department). Memorials given to the family will be directed to the Winterset Firefighters Association.
