Page 3, Column 4Maria Elizabeth Lee was born in Madison county, Iowa, April 11, 1856, and departed this life at her home in Stuart, Ia., June 24, 1916, having attained the age of 60 years, 2 months, 13 days. Except for a period of five years, which were spent with her parents in Indiana, her entire life has been passed in Iowa. She united with the Christian church in Madison county when 17 years of age and ever after lived a faithful Christian life, deriving therefrom a great peace and contentment. The church was her chief joy.
She was united in marriage to Allen J. Ticknor in Walnut township, Adair county, Iowa, May 24, 1882. This has proved a happy union and theirs was an ideal home. Five children came to gladden the home, one, little Mina, having passed beyond at the early age of three years. Walter T., Chas. E., Margaret D. and May V. remain with the husband and six grandchildren to mourn the loss of a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her home and motherly love was also shared with her niece, now Mrs. Eliza Young of Alberta, Canada, who was as a daughter in the home. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. P. Hubbard of Guthrie Center and Mrs. Jane Woolery of this city, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
She was always kind and thoughtful of others and many of the frequent visitors in the home called her “Mother”.
Although an invalid for many years, and confined to her bed for 14 weeks, she was ever a patient sufferer, thinking of others who were worse off than herself instead of brooding over her own afflictions. She was also always grateful for the love and care which her family and friends never tired of bestowing upon her.
Though we shall miss her sadly we know she is at rest.
Funeral services were held at the Christian church Monday, June 26, conducted by the Rev. Andrews, pastor. The remains were laid to rest in the Jefferson cemetery, Madison county, Iowa.
Relatives from a distance present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. P. Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Will Hubbard, Rosa and Joe Hubbard of Guthrie Center; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Sim Hubbard, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hubbard, Mrs. Grace Street, Casey, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Ticknor, Mr. and Mrs. John Riser, Earlham; Mrs. Ern Wilson of Reasoner.
