Last week witnessed the death of one of the pioneers of Madison county and Penn township, when Fred Imboden, who had been a resident of that township since 1869 was claimed by death at Earlham, where he had lived since moving off the farm. Mr. Imboden was born in Switzerland, in 1836. He came to this country and settled in Holmes county, Ohio, at the age of sixteen years, and in 1869 moved to Madison county and settled on the farm in the south part of Penn township, where he lived until a short time before his death. He was married in 1866 to Louisa Feitz, who survives him.

The immediate cause of his death was cancer of the stomach. He withstood a severe operation in August, but later grew worse. His surviving children are Julius Imboden of Greeley, Colo., Lovie, Mary, Fred Jr., and Roy Imboden, and Mrs. Cord Boyle, all of Madison county. Mr. Imboden owned one of the finest farms in Penn township and amassed considerable wealth by industrious farming. He helped to make Penn township one of the best townships in the county. He was a model citizen and known and respected all over Madison county. Having frequently enjoyed the hospitality of his home, the editor of this paper is in position to fully appreciate the loss of such ------- whole county.

The body was laid to rest in the Penn Center cemetery, he being a member of the Methodist church at that place.
