Earlham Echo
Earlham, Iowa
March 17, 1904

A. B. Swanson, an old and highly respected citizen of this place was found dead on the floor of his room by members of his family early last Sunday morning. Mr. Swanson has been ill for some time and had been sleeping in the sitting room near the fire all winter. Saturday evening the members of the family had retired, leaving Mr. Swanson by the fire reading. He had evidently started to retire when the summons came as he was partly disrobed.

The funeral services were held Tuesday in the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. Whitehead. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.

The subject of this sketch was born in Sweden in 1836. He was united in marriage to Clara Bloomquist in 1864. Four children blessed this union, two sons and two daughters, all of whom are living and with their mother lament the loss of a loving husband and father. In the year 1869 Mr. Swanson came with his family to America, first settling in Kellogg, this state. In the spring of 1872 he removed to Madison county, and has since resided in the vicinity of Earlham. Mr. Swanson was a member of the Lutheran church from early boyhood and lived a quiet unassuming Christian life. He had been in failing health for some time, and about a week prior to his death, he expressed to his daughter the belief that the end was near at hand and although the summons came very suddenly it found him ready.
