Gone to Rest

Anna Peacock Diggs was born July 6th, 1823, in Randolph county, Ind. Departed this life Feb. 29, 1904. She was the daughter of Amos and Hannah Peacock. Was married to Pleasant W. Diggs Sept. 12, 1844. This union was blessed with two children, Abigail J. and Amos P., both of whom with the aged companion, were with her to the last. She also leaves five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren who will miss the thoughtfulness and care from her ever ready hands.

She was a life long member of the Friends church, performing her duties in such commendable way as to be loved and honored by old and young. A few days before she died she told her companion of nearly sixty years, that she would soon be with “mother” and loved ones gone before, and later seemed to have a vision of the Heavenly Home, and greeted her mother, begging loved ones here to “let her go”.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon in Friends church here conducted by Rev. J. W. Stribling. The 23d Psalm, one she loved so well, was read. The thought expressed was of the Resurrection and meeting beyond, not far off, and dwelling on the possibility of living a Christian life. The songs chosen and rendered by friends were most sweet and appropriate, among which was “Beautiful Reckoning Hands.” She was interred in the Earlham cemetery. Thus has gone from our midst one who ever considered the comfort and care of others before herself.
