Jesse Barnett was born in Clinton county, Ohio, March 17, 1820, and died at his home near Earlham, Iowa, January 30, 1904, aged 83 years, 10 months and – days. At the age of seven he moved with his parents to Indiana where he grew to manhood. In 1843 he was united in marriage to Rebecca Slantov. There were ten children in the family, five of whom with the faithful wife, preceded him to the better land.

In 1856 he moved to Iowa, settling in Warren county near Ackworth. About two years later he moved to Clarke county near Smyrna, where he made his home for twenty years. He came to Dallas county in 1878, where he made his home until the date of his decease.

He was a life member of Friends church, loyal to her doctrines and a faithful attender upon her services.

He leaves three sons, two daughters, ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, together with a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his loss.
