Death Comes Suddenly

Oneida was profoundly shocked Sunday morning by the sudden death of John McQuie. Mr. McQuie had not been in robust health for the past month, but there was nothing in his condition to expect alarm, as he was about town the day before his death. He rose Sunday morning and did his usual chores, when he was ----- with a sudden illness, which terminated fatally within a few minutes.

Funeral services were held from the M.E. church, Tuesday, Rev. I. J. Luther----, assisted by Rev. Wright of ------, officiating. The interment was in the Oneida cemetery.

John McQuie was born in Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland, October 31, 1838. He came with his father’s family to Knox county in 1857, and lived in Copley township until 1870 when he moved to Earlham, Iowa.

He was married August 7, 1876, to Mary Barkwill, at Winterset, Iowa. Both united with the M.E. church while living in Iowa.

In 1889 they sold their farm holding in Iowa, and shortly after came to Oneida, buying the farm now occupied by Frank ------, where they resided nine years. (The rest is unreadable)
