EARL BAUMGARTEN JR., ST. CHARLES

Earl Ernest Baumgarten Jr., 53, of St. Charles passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines.

Services were held Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Truro United Methodist Church, with internment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter on Jan. 13. Memorial contributions may be given to the family in his name.

Earl was born on Feb. 22, 1960, in Iowa City to Earl Ernest Baumgarten Sr. and Jean Betty (Way) Baumgarten. Earl proudly served his country in the Army from May 1979 to November 1984. He received an Army service ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Sharpshooter (M-16 Rifle & Hand Grenade). Earl was also a volunteer on the Truro Fire and Rescue for 22 years.

Survivors include his partner, Frances Hoffman; children, Paul Baumgarten and Bridget Baumgarten; step-children, Roselee (Ben) Young and Charles (Shannon) Hoffman; sister, Peggy (Rex) Heslop; half-brother Dean Penningroth; and many other family members and friends.
