Marilynn Irene Miller, Des Moines

Marilynn I. Miller passed from this life November 27, 2013 in West Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2013, at the funeral home.

Marilynn was born February 15, 1926 to Olin and Avis (Van Loon) Gifford. She grew up in Madison County and graduated from Winterset High School in 1943. In January 1947 she was united in marriage to Earl Miller. She spent the next 18 years as a mother and homemaker before returning to the workplace in 1968. She retired from First Interstate Bank in 1991. In the early years of her retirement she was able to devote time to her passion of quilt making. She completed more than 100 beautiful, handcrafted quilts before she was forced to quit by advancing dementia. As a girl, Marilynn made a profession to live her life as a Christian and continued in a non-denominational Christian fellowship for the remainder of her life.

Marilynn was preceded in death by her husband, both parents and a brother. She is survived by Children: Dennis (Debbie) Miller, Cindi Decker, Marilee (John) Ernst, all of Des Moines; David (Libby) Miller of Altoona; grandchildren: Nathan (Jana) Miller, Ashlee LeVang, Alan (Heather) Miller, Quincy (Rebecca) Miller, Derek Miller, Marissa Ernst and Six great-grandchildren.
