Death of Mrs. E. A. Breeding

Mrs. Eliza Ann Breeding, a pioneer of Madison county, died at her home in Winterset on Dec. 4th, after a long period of failing health. A fall nine weeks ago caused a rapid decline.

Grandmother Breeding, as she was generally known, was the widow of the late Joseph Breeding, who died about thirty years ago.

The family lived in Scott township and of the six children, three remain: Mrs. Emma McLees of South Dakota, Mrs. Mary Bell and Jeff of Des Moines, James Pack and Rella, the other three children, preceded their mother in death.

Mrs. Breeding was a remarkable woman in many ways. Her faculties were especially good for one of her age, her memory being very clear. She will be greatly missed by her relatives and friends who admired and loved her for her splendid character.

Funeral services were held at Blair Chapel and burial was made in the Blair Chapel cemetery.

Mortuary

Eliza A. Turk was born in Adair county, Kentucky Aug. 30, 1834, and passed away at her home in Winterset Dec. 5, 1922, aged 88 years, 3 months and 5 days.

She was married to Joseph A. Breeding in Adair county, Kentucky, Sept. 16, 1854. To this union were eight children, five of whom have preceded her in death, two in infancy and three after reaching maturity. She with her husband and family, came to Iowa in November, 1860 and she has resided in Madison county continuously since that time.

She was converted and united with the United Brethren church more than half a century ago, and lived a firm believer in Christ and His power to save, to the end of life. She was a faithful wife, a loving, self-sacrificing mother, a good neighbor and a true friend.

She leaves to mourn her departure, three children: G. J. Breeding and Mrs. Mary Bell of Des Moines; and Mrs. Emma McLees of Sanborn, N.D.; 13 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. We shall miss her and will await the reunion in the land of unfading day.

Funeral services were held at Blair Chapel, conducted by Rev. D. J. Shenton, and interment made in Blair Chapel cemetery.
