Death of John H. Smith

John Henry Smith, a resident of this county for sixty-six years, died at his home in Winterset, on last Wednesday. Mr. Smith was well known in the community, where he worked at the carpenter trade much of his last years.

Mortuary

John H. Smith was born in New York City, April 7, 1854. In the year 1856 he moved with his parents to Crawford township, Madison county. He cared for his parents while they lived.

On Oct. 20, 1906, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Villiers. To this union were born one son, John Alonzo who departed this life April 3, 1913, at the age of 1 year, 6 months and 17 days.

In 18— Mr. Smith moved to Winterset, where he departed this life on Oct. 11, 1922, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was bedfast for more than four months and endured great suffering, but was very patient, even to the last.

Those left to mourn him are his wife, three sisters, and one brother, who could not be present at the funeral, besides a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday morning at 10 o’clock, at St. Joseph’s church, and burial was made in Winterset cemetery.
