Death of Miss Emily Duncan

Miss Emily Duncan, aged 75 years, died on July 21st, at the home of her sister, Mrs. George Gardner, after life-long invalidism. She is survived by another sister, Mrs. H. H. Schieb of Akron, Ohio, and one brother, Charles P. Duncan of Grimes, Iowa.

Miss Duncan’s family came to Madison county in 1852 and settled west of Winterset. She had resided in this county for nearly 70 years, 25 of which time she lived in this city.

Funeral services were held on July 23d at the Gardner home, by Rev. LeRoy C. Cooley, interment taking place in the Winterset cemetery.

OBITUARIES

Emily Duncan

Emily Duncan was born in White county, Illinois, Indiana, March 4, 1847. She came West with her parents, Samuel and Elizabeth Duncan in 1853. They settled in Madison county in a log house 3 miles and a half west of Winterset. At the time of their arrival the courthouse in Winterset was a building of logs. She has lived in this county for nearly seventy years, twenty five years of which time she has made her home in Winterset.

She entered into rest at the age of seventy-five years, five months and sixteen days, Friday morning, July 21, 1922 at the home of her sister, Mrs. George W. Gardner.

One sister has preceded her into the beyond, Mrs. Martha Fosher, formerly of Woodward, Iowa, and there are two sisters, Mrs. H. H. Schieb, of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. George Gardner of Winterset, and her brother, Charles E. Duncan, of Grimes, Iowa.

The funeral service was held Sabbath afternoon at half past two o’clock at the home of George W. Gardner with a sermon by Rev. L. R. C. Cooley, pastor of the Frst Presbyterian church and with interment in the Winterset cemetery.
