DENNIS SCAR, EARLHAM

Dennis Scar, 64, of Earlham died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at his home.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 30, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter, with burial following in Penn Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Zion Lutheran Church and/or Middle River Hospice in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home.

Dennis Scar was born the third of four sons on June 25, 1949, to Darlene and Alvin (Sam) Scar in Dexter. He was raised on his family farm in Madison County, Iowa, where he lived as an adult and died in his home following a courageous but short battle with cancer. After graduating from Earlham High School, Dennis received a degree from Iowa State University and soon began his chosen career in agriculture. He was married to Christine Bond in 1970, and they were blessed with three children. For many years he operated Scar Repair Shop along with his farming operation. In addition to farming, Dennis served for a time on the Sheep Producers Board and also as a trustee for Zion Lutheran Church, of which he was a life-long member.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leora and Claiborne Wilson; Charlie and Katie Scar; and his father, Alvin Scar.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Scar; and his children: Deni (Ed) Sobek of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Christa Scar of Omaha, Neb., and Charles (Nicole) Scar of Earlham; three grandsons; his mother: Darlene Scar of Earlham and his brothers: Richard (Janice) Scar of Buena Vista, Colo., Robert (Lisa) Scar of Asheville, NC, and David (Jere) Scar of Woodward; and many other family members and friends.
