Mortuary

Catherine A. Willcox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shellenbarger, was born in Manard county, Illinois, June 8, 1834 and departed this life June 6, 1922, at the age of 87 years, 11 months and 27 days.

On Feb. 18, 1864 she was married to Alamanza Willcox and came to Madison county, July 4, 1865, and spent the remainder of her life here. She was the mother of five children: J. F. Willcox of Winterset, the only surviving child; Grant, who died Sept. 6, 1912; William and Almeda, who died in infancy; and an elder son, Theodore A. Benham, who died Dec. 7, 1920.

Soon after moving to Madison county, she united with the Christian church at Patterson and was a regular attendant as long as health permitted.

One son, nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren are left to mourn her departure. Her suffering was intense, but she bore it with patience. She often expressed her desire to go home, and requested that her funeral sermon be preached from the fourteenth chapter of John.

Funeral services were conducted by E. B. Chancellor on Thursday, June 8th at two o’clock at the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
