The funeral of Mrs. Peter Nelson, who died Wednesday morning in Des Moines at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mary Davis, was held at the Friends church Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Lescault.

Mr. and Mrs. Nelson lived in and near Earlham for many years, but 11 years ago they went to live in Des Moines with their daughter, where Mr. Nelson died several years ago.

Mrs. Nelson joined the Friends church 37 years ago and was a faithful member during all these years.

She was 86 years old and had been a semi-invalid for many years. There were a large number of her old friends and neighbors at the funeral and a beautiful display of flowers from those who knew her best and loved her most.

Mattie C. Leisure was born June 24, 1835 in Denmark. Death took her at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary Davis in Des Moines on April 19, 1922. In 1855, at the age of twenty years she was married to Hans Peter Nelson, of Denmark. The couple continued to live in the old country until 1869, when they came to America to seek their fortune. It chanced that they settled in Dallas County, in which vicinity they were to spend the greater part of their lives.

About seven years ago the couple moved to Des Moines, and shortly afterward occurred the death of Mr. Nelson. Mrs. Nelson has since made her home with her daughter, Mary Davis.

To the union eight children were born, three boys and five girls, of whom four are now living, namely J. P. Nelson, of Earlham, Hannah Davis, of Osceola, Charles N. Nelson, Truro, and Mary M. Davis, of Des Moines.

Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Friends Church for 37 years, and remained a loyal Christian until death called her. Funeral services were held at the Friends Church at two o’clock Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Chas. Lescault. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery.

All of the children were present at the funeral service, also a son-in-law George Callahan, of Grand Island, Nebr.
