Pg 3Harriett Lake Foster, daughter of Ashford and Susan Lake, was born June 30, 1839 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Hubbell in Des Moines, April, 1922, having reached the age of 82 years, 9 months and 5 days. The deceased came with her parents from Ohio in 1855 and settled in Madison county, near Peru.
She was united in marriage to John C. Foster Nov. 29, 1857. To this union were born eight children, all of whom are living except Etta, who died in infancy. Those surviving her are George A. and Darwin W., living near Truro; Mrs. Minnie L. Whiting, Mrs. Emma Hubbell and John Denton of Des Moines; Ashford of Denver, Colo.; and Heber N., of Hillyard, Wash. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Hester Seevers of Winterset and two brothers, Ammon Lake of Winterset and Smith Lake of California.
After her marriage, they settled on a farm in Monroe township, where the children were born and reared to manhood and womanhood. In 1902 they retired and moved to Winterset, where Mr. Foster passed away July 2, 1920.
It was during a visit to her children in Des Moines that she was stricken with a fatal disease and died following a short illness. She was a most devoted wife and mother, ever thoughtful of the comfort and welfare of those about her, and her departure has left a host of sorrowing friends and relatives.
