Death of Mrs. Fred Jones

Mrs. Fred Jones, who was in a precarious condition at the time of the last publication of the Madisonian, died on March 30, at her home near Winterset. She was a graduate of our city high school and is a daughter of Mrs. Alice Holmes of Winterset. She taught school until her marriage eleven years ago.

Four little daughters and Mr. Holmes survive her, as well as other relatives. The remains were buried on Saturday from the Methodist church, Rev. Jackson Giddens conducting the last rites.

Beulah Holmes was born in Scott township, June 3, 1891 and departed this life at her home six miles south of Winterset, March 30, 1922. She spent her entire life in Zion community, attending the home school, then finishing her education in the Winterset high school. She prepared herself for a teacher and was very successful in her chosen work.

She was married to Fred Jones, Feb. 15, 1911 and to this union were born four daughters: Pauline, Lois, Maxine and Winifred.

She was converted and united with the Methodist church at an early age and was always faithful in her attendance at Sunday school and church services. She often expressed her joy in Christian work and her love for her Savior. She was president of her Sunday school class and an officer in the women’s society of Zion church at the time of her death. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, and a true friend.

She leaves to mourn her death, the husband, the four daughters, the mother, Mrs. Alice Holmes; a sister, Mrs. W. R. Worley of Winterset; four brothers: Starling and Albert of Dakota, and Fred and M.B. of Madison county; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Winterset by Rev. Jackson Giddens on Saturday afternoon, and the mortal body laid to rest in Winterset cemetery.
