Death Of Mrs. Emily Burd

W. W. Gentry has received word that his sister, Mrs. Emily J. Burd, died on Jan. 11th at her home in Heppner, Ore. Mrs. Burd, who was 84 years old, came to Madison county in 1847 and resided here and in Des Moines until 16 years ago, when she decided to make her home in the west. She will be well remembered by old neighbors and friends.

Emily Jane Gentry was born in Putnam county, Indiana in 1837 and died in Heppner, Ore., Jan. 11, 1922. When but 9 years of age, she moved with her parents to Missouri and after a residence there of five years, the family removed to Winterset.

She married Isaac Bird in 1858 and of the four children born to them, only one son survives his parents. Mrs. Bird lived a widow for 54 years. In 1905 she removed to Oregon, living at Portland and Heppner.

She is survived by four sisters: Mrs. Mary Burton and Mrs. Sarah Brown of Heppner, Ore.; Mrs. Larry Harrington of Seaside, Ore.; Mrs. Nancy Atchison of Talma, Kans.; and one brother, W. W. Gentry of Winterset.
