Dorothy Spain was born in Wick, IA in 1926 to Ruby Knight and Ernest Reinholdt and died at 87 years of age on September 7, 2013. She was raised in Martensdale, IA. She met her husband Robert Spain in high school and they were married for 59 years. They lived in Bevington, IA where Dorothy was the town Post Mistress. She and Roddy ran a gas station. Later they farmed in the Cumming, IA area until they retired and moved to Des Moines, however they quickly moved back to the country that they enjoyed. She worked for many years after farming as a commodities broker and spent her final years in the Des Moines area with her family, who enjoyed her very much.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Daniel P. (Joyce), Marsha Swinford and Robert F. Jr. (Mary); five grandchildren, Jennifer, Collette, Daniel E., Sara and Robbie; six great-grandchildren and her brother, Lee (Beverly) Reinholdt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; three brothers, Charles, William and James; granddaughter, Mollie and son-in-law, Gene Swinford.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 11 at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Norwalk with burial to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Patrick's Cemetery Fund.
