HAZEL B. HARVEY, Waukee

Hazel B. Harvey, 91, of Waukee, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2013 at The Village at Legacy Pointe Nursing Facility in Waukee. Services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, both at Ernst Funeral Home, Waukee. Burial to follow at the Booneville Cemetery.

Hazel was born on the family farm on September 24, 1921 near Earlham, IA to Ralph and Mabel Bricker. She graduated from DeSoto High School in 1939 and later from Drake University. Hazel began her passion, teaching, at the age of 16. Throughout her long career, she taught at country schools and for DeSoto, Van Meter, Waukee and West Des Moines School Districts. After her retirement in 1981, she and her husband Duke enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in Florida.

Hazel is survived by her daughter Sharon Harvey of Waukee; sisters-in-law Irma Bricker of Stuart, IA and Gertrude Kuplinski of Scranton, PN and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Duke, and siblings Ila McClurg, Melvin Bricker and Russell Bricker.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Waukee Christian Church in Hazel's memory. -
