James Faris Herrick was born January 29, 1937, in Webster, South Dakota, to Hilda and Andrew Herrick. He graduated from Webster High School in 1954.

In August 1954, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he was honorably discharged in November 1957. James attended Augustana College, Sioux Falls, SD. He was married on April 21, 1957, to Connie Batie in Webster, SD. From this union, four children were born: Jamie; and triplets, Kathy, Kelly and Kristy.

Jim spent most of his adult life in the financing and banking fields, his expertise being assisting troubled banks. This required several moves to banks that needed his services. He retired in June of 2000 from Union State Bank, Winterset, Iowa, where he served as President and served on the bank Board of Directors.

Jim served as President of the Hospital Board, Winterset, and Rotary Club, where he served as President. He was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also a past member of the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Ambassador’s Club. While living in Sioux Falls, he was President of Kiwanis West, and in Shell Rock, IA, he served as President of the Lion’s Club and was a member of the American Legion Post 0184, Iowa, and a member of the Sioux Falls chapter. He was involved in several civic organizations and was a member of Yelduz Shrine, Aberdeen, SD, a 32nd degree Mason, and the Royal Order of Jester’s Court 114, Sioux Falls.

Jim loved to fish, hunt and sing, especially Please Release Me. He loved life.

Survivors include his wife, Connie; four daughters: Jamie Schepp of Bottineau, ND, Kathy Stewart (Bruce), of Northfield, MN, Kelly Herrick of Minneapolis, MN, and Kristy Roberts (Neill), of Tampa, FL; 4 grandchildren: Andy and Maria Soper, Paige and Dylan Roberts; one sister, Letha Huffman (Tom); sister-in-law, Barbara Herrick; and special nephew, Terry Sampson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Donald.

Following an extended battle with pulmonary fibrosis, Jim passed away with his wife and daughters by his side on Saturday morning, June 15, 2013, at Reflections Hospice on the Three Links Campus in Northfield, at the age of 76.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Three Links Care Center Chapel in Northfield with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Honorary pallbearers are Karl Nelson, Wes Borinkhof, Scott Johnson, Darrell Schultz, Gene Hassel, David Lyng, Roger Peterson, Maynard Dahl, David Merriam, Tom Huffman, Terry Sampson, Jim Wilson and Don Barr.
