Monday, April 8, 1918Benjamin Bishop of Bangor is Dead
Benjamin Bishop, one of the oldest residents of the Bangor district, passed away Saturday night at shortly before midnight at a local hospital, at the age of 76 years.
Mr. Bishop was a native of Indiana. He is survived by two sons, Fred Bishop of Bangor, and George Bishop of Placer county. Also the following step-children: Mrs. Emma Sligar, Gridley; Mrs. Mary Hennegar, San Francisco; Bird Will, Bangor.
Mr. Bishop came to California in 1862, settling first at the Ord ranch near Gridley. After staying there a short time, he moved to Mendocino county, where he remained seven years, returning then to Butte county, and settling at Bangor, where he engaged in stock raising.
He was well known, a man of admirable character and possessed a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at Bangor. Interment will be in the Bangor cemetery.
___________________Transcriber's note: Benjamin, along with his parents and siblings lived in Madison County from about 1850 to about 1860 per census records.
