When Dick came home from the war he helped his Father with the family business - the Truro Stockyards. His Father passed away suddenly, so Dick took over the Stockyards and operated it for many years. He also served (2) terms as Mayor of Truro.

Dick and Joan were blessed with (3) children, Kathy, Rick and Randy. Dick and Joan were very involved with all their children’s activities. He was never too busy to play with them, whether it be “hide and go seek” or teaching then to play ball or just wrestling with them. He coached his sons little league teams. As their children got older they would travel many miles to watch them play and cheer them on.

Sports were one of Dick’s passions. He loved Baseball, whether he played, Coached or listened to it on the radio or watched TV. He and Joan participated in bowling leagues and bridge clubs for many years. Golf was very important to Dick. He played for over 50 years. He and Joan participated in many Golf Leagues. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeye Football Fan. He went to many football games at Iowa City with his brother’s, sons and grandsons.

Dick and Joan started the tradition of family vacation in Branson when they went there to celebrate their “50th Wedding Anniversary”. It continued for 10 years until Dick’s health prevented him and Joan from going, his children and grandchildren have carried on the tradition right up till this upcoming summer gathering. Dick and Joan lived in Truro for over 50 years. They recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. He will be greatly missed.
