Maxine Mae Rains was born on a ranch at Madrid, NE on March 3, 1922 to Frank L. and Clara O. Rains. When Maxine was 3 weeks old her mother passed away. Maxine then went to live with her grandparents Matilda and Charles Clark. Her grandparents moved a lot but finally settled in Kearney, NE and that’s where her growing up was.

In 1943 Maxine went to Des Moines, IA to attend Bible School and in 1944 she graduated and returned back to Kearney. In 1946 she came back to Des Moines, IA. In 1947 she met Paul and on June 28, 1947 they were married in Des Moines, IA. Paul owned and operated a hatchery at Perry, IA where they lived. Maxine wanted to be near her new husband, so she worked beside him in the hatchery. After that they operated 500 colonies of bees. Maxine also went along to help, scared at first but still wanted to help Paul.

February 15, 1951, Maxine and Paul were blessed with their first son William Charles. 1954 Dennis Paul came along and 1958 Michael LaVerne was born. She often called them my 3 sons. They moved to Earlham, IA in 1964. The boys all grew up and married. Bill presented them with four girls, Stephenie, Stacey, Becky, and Lesa. Michael with one little girl, Monica. Maxine loved her granddaughters and daughter in laws as she never had any daughters.

In June 28, 1987 Paul and Maxine had their 40th anniversary given by all the children, was a happy day. In January of 1988 Paul took very ill, was hospitalized for 3 weeks. On February 1, 1988 Paul went to be with the Lord. Now Maxine has gone to join him.

She leaves to mourn her 3 sons, Bill (Kathy), Dennis, Mike (Michelle), 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild due in May.
