Junior High Pupil Dies in School

Rex Crawford Stricken Fatally in Winterset School Classroom

A Winterset junior high school student died of natural causes in his eighth grade class room here last Thursday.

The boy was Rex M. Crawford, 15 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Crawford of Winterset. He was sitting at his desk when seized with a convulsion, falling to the floor. The teacher, school nurse and school principal went to work promptly to revive him, using all facilities and technique available, but he died before he could be removed to the hospital.

The body was sent to Des Moines for an autopsy. Dr. Paul Eggleston, county coroner, reports that the autopsy revealed the boy died during an epileptic convulsion.

Rex M. Crawford was born in Winterset, March 27, 1946, a son of Charles and Mildred Kephart Crawford. Most of his life was spent in this community. He was affiliated with the Baptist church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Lloyd, Henry and Donald Crawford, all at home; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Jessie Palmer of Fremont, Nebr.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First Baptist church of Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Leon Seager of the Church of the Nazarene. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
