J. M. Strawn Dies at St. Charles

J. M. Strawn, a life-time resident of Warren county, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, at a St. Charles nursing home, where he had spent the last four years. He was 88 years of age.

A son of Levi Strawn, he was born in Warren county Nov. 23, 1872, and spent his active life as a farmer there. His wife, the former Nellie Bumbarger, preceded him in death in 1941. He was a member of the First Baptist church at Indianola.

Surviving are two sons, Earnest Strawn of Glendora, Calif., and Paul Strawn of Whittier, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Chapman of Waterloo, Mrs. Gladys Hardin of Greenwich, Conn., Mrs. Dorothy Mathis of Boron, Calif., and Mrs. Norma Cornick of Winterset; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Effie Shutt of St. Charles.

Funeral services were held Friday from the St. Charles Christian church, in charge of the Rev. James Farrell. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
