Was Resident Here for Half Century; Dies at 82 Years of Age.
Mrs. Elmer Hughes of Winterset, a resident of this community for over half a century, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Memorial hospital here. She was 82 years of age.
Mrs. Hughes was a native of Adel, where she was born Feb. 2, 1883. She was the former Nina Mabel Callahan, daughter of Milton and Mary E. Comer Callahan.
She was married at Spring Hill on Dec. 24, 1902 to Elmer Hughes. He preceded her in death many years ago.
She was a member of the First Baptist church of Winterset.
Surviving are two sons, Dr. Ronald Hughes of Los Angeles, California and Donald D. Hughes of North Hollywood, California. She also leaves two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. George Peterson of Dundee, Ill. and Mrs. Bessie Lunsden of Lorimor.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Wilson Funeral home here, in charge of the Rev. H. E. Borum, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
