Former Resident Dies in Kansas

Mrs. Lula M. Shackelford, a native of Madison county, died Aug. 28 at Liberal, Kansas. The body was brought to Winterset for burial in the Winterset cemetery this Tuesday. Graveside services were conducted in charge of ------------------- of the First Christian church of Winterset.

Mrs. Shackelford was the former Lula M. Craven, daughter of Eli and Elmira Kivett Craven. She was born in Madison county on June 28, 1878, and was 86 years of age at her death.

She was married here on July 4, 1897 to Ellis B. Shackelford. They went to Kansas in 1898, making the trip by covered wagon and farmed near Grenola for many years. They returned to Madison county, living here until her husband’s death 22 years ago, when she again moved to Kansas.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Everett Higgins of Liberal, Kan., five grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Craven of Winterset and John Craven of McMinville, Ore. One son, Larkin Shackelford, preceded her in death.
