Winterset Madisonian – December 30, 1981

Funeral services for Mildred Monagon of Winterset were held at 2 p.m. today at Collins Funeral Home. Mrs. Monagon died at Care Center South in Winterset on Dec. 28. She was 84 years of age.

Born August 19, 1897 in Ponca, Neb., she was the daughter of Edward and Jennie Benshoff Wigton. She married Claude Monagon on April 2, 1919 in Linden, Iowa.

A homemaker, Mrs. Monagon was a member of the Farm Bureau, active in the Madison County Fair and a former school teacher.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, two sons, a daughter, an infant granddaughter and an infant great-grandson.

Survivors include her husband, Claude; two daughters, Lois Nichols of DeSoto and Marion Hood of Dexter; one brother, Harold Wigton of Grimes; 11 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Burial was at Winterset cemetery with Rev. John Fullerton officiating.
