Former Peru Resident Dies

Mrs. Charlotte M. Harwood Died Sunday at Moses Lake, Wash.

Mrs. Charlotte M. Harwood, formerly of Peru, died Sunday, March 31, at Moses Lake, Wash. She was 72 years of age.

Mrs. Harwood was born July 27, 1890, at Peru, a daughter of Isaac and Sarah Porter Gifford. She was married as a young woman, to Joseph L. Harwood. Their home was at Peru until his death in 1943.

Following the death of her husband, she moved to Fremont, Nebraska, to make her home with a daughter, Mrs. Fred Wisliscen, and then to Washington to the home of another daughter, Mrs. Art Jensen.

In addition to Mrs. Jensen and Mrs. Wisliscen, Mrs. Harwood is survived by a third daughter, Mrs. George Empfield of Los Angeles, Calif.; one grandchild; two brothers, Frank Gifford of Cummings and Harold Gifford of Chillicothe, Mo.; and five sisters, Mrs. Iva Bullin of Portland, Ore., and Mrs. Dorothy Cunningham, Mrs. Sylvia Porter, Mrs. Cleo Dill and Mrs. Susan Higgins, all of Chillicothe, Mo.

Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral home in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. John C. Porath, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial will be made in the Peru cemetery.

Services were held also at Moses Lake, in Chapel of the Memories, this Tuesday.
