Vergie Mapes Services

Funeral services for Vergie S. Mapes, who died Wednesday, March 18, in a traffic accident south of Winterset, were held Saturday, March 21, at Collins Funeral Home. She was 67 years old.

A lifetime resident of Madison County, Mrs. Mapes was born October 12, 1913, the daughter of John Huss and Myrtle Miller.

On Dec. 29, 1933 she married Harold Glen Mapes in Winterset. Mr. Mapes died in 1979.

Mrs. Mapes was a certified nurses aid and was working for Summerset Haven (formerly Horton’s Custodial Home) for the past 13 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Verl; two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Glenn of Winterset and Gail of Mt. Ayr; two daughters, Norma Key and Mrs. Dennis (Sheenie) McDonald, both of Winterset; a brother Emmett Huss of Des Moines; four sisters, Nola Hildebrand and Marjorie Oglesbee of Winterset, Gladys Kivett of New Market, Tenn., and Glade Palmer of California; 14 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Burial was at Winterset cemetery.
