Former Winterset Resident Died in California Last Thursday

George W. Lucas, member of a formerly well known Winterset family died last Thursday, May 2 at Burlingame, Calif., after a short illness. He was 51 years of age.

Mr. Lucas was born at Winterset June 5, 1911, a son of Oscar A. and Anna Nehring Lucas. His father was a prominent Winterset business man for many years. He attended Winterset high school where he was an outstanding athlete, graduating in the class of 1928.

When he was 25 years of age he moved to California, where he made his home in Burlingame. He was employed as a salesman.

During World War II he served as a chief petty officer in the United States navy.

Mr. Lucas is survived by two brothers, Carl Lucas of Salem, Ore. and Paul Lucas of Redwood City, Calif; and five sisters, Mrs. Augusta Livingston of Washington, Ia., Mrs. Lenore Pick of Oak Park, Ill., Mrs. Alberta Barrett of Berkeley, Calif., Theresa Lucas of Burlingame, Calif., and Mrs. Mary Palmer of Sacramento, Calif.

The body was returned to Winterset for burial. Funeral services were held here Tuesday from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Walter J. Stewart of Washington, former pastor of the United Presbyterian church in Winterset. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
