TEDDY J. ANTHONY

Teddy J. Antony, age 85, passed away on Friday, September 25, 2009 at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Margaret (Davis) Anthony; two older brothers Jack and Bill; a son Jack and a granddaughter, Jenny. Surviving are his children, Alan (Nancy) Anthony, of Macksburg, Iowa and Linda (Jerry) Johnson of Spring Lake, Michigan. Also surviving are Judy Anthony of Indianola, Iowa and niece Joni Beals of Scottsdale, Az.

Ted was proud of his seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He stayed in touch with his best friend since pre-kindergarten, Carroll Reinert, of Hutchinson, Kansas. Ted was baptized a Quaker in the small farming town of Earlham, Iowa.

He was in the Navy during World War II and served on the DE 173 USS Eldridge. He sailed the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the Pacific during the war and spoke of many wild experiences. After the War, Ted returned to Iowa and owned his own masonry contracting business and was a realtor. In his later years, he was the Manager of Maintenance at Woodward Iowa State Hospital. He enjoyed his retirement years in Mesa, AZ.

When his health declined, he came to live with his daughter, Linda and “perfect” son-in-law Jerry. Linda and Jerry felt privileged to often have four generations around their table. They also very much appreciate the support of so many neighbors and friends who included Ted in get-togethers. In 2008, Ted became a resident of Sanctuary at the Shore where he was treated like a king! He loved the cheerful staff (and the food).

A family service and interment will take place at a future date at Morrisburg Cemetery in Iowa. Ted was a fun person who was determined to squeeze out every second of his life. To honor his memory – talk to people who are in wheelchairs, - visit nursing home residents, - eat pancakes and cinnamon rolls at the Pine Street Cafe, - thank veterans for their service, - help your neighbors.

Please consider making memorial contributions to Sanctuary at the Shore in Grand Haven, and Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence. Leave a tribute for Ted at www.mem.com .

Arrangements by Ever Rest Funeral Home and Chapel, Muskegon, Michigan. Phone 231-777-3557.

Ted has earned “Permission to Go Ashore”
