Sunday, June 5, 2011Edith L. Youmans, age 98, of Clinton, Iowa, died Friday, June 3, 2011, at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Lyons United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the church, and from 10 a.m. until the service time on Thursday, also at the church.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Camanche, Iowa, with a luncheon to follow at the church.
Edith was born in Truro, Iowa, on January 12, 1913, the daughter of Frank and Emma (Klein) McClelland. Edith married Veral E. Youmans on June 4, 1930, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Veral died in 1983. Edith worked at the Clinton Garment Factory, Swift & Company, Warrens, and later as a cook at the Alverno. She also did babysitting and elder care.
Edith was a friend of the Lyons United Methodist Church and an associate of the Sisters of St. Francis. She was a member of Methodist Federation for Social Action. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, reading and playing with her grandchildren, singing, reciting poetry and nursery rhythms, gardening, cooking, baking, fishing and boating on the river.
Edith is survived by two daughters, Carolyn McDanel (her husband, Clair McDanel) of Clinton, and Kathy Youmans Driscoll (her husband, Brian Driscoll) of Camanche; nine grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Billy in 1995, a great-great-granddaughter, Angelique Wright, son-in-law, Orian McDaniel, four sisters and two brothers.
