Mulvihill Funeral This Friday
Funeral services for Katherine Watts Mulvihill will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church of the Irish Settlement. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 to 10:30 a.m. preceding the funeral. The rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Des Moines.
Mrs. Mulvihill died Tuesday, June 10, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 83. A resident of the Irish Settlement most of her life, Mrs. Mulvihill had moved to the Bishop Drumm Home in Des Moines seven years ago.

Funeral services for Katherine Watts Mulvihill of Des Moines, formerly of the Irish Settlement in Lee Township, were held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with burial there. Mrs. Mulvihill died Tuesday, June 10, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 83.
A native of Polk County, Mrs. Mulvihill lived in the Irish Settlement for 52 years before moving to the Bishop Drumm Home in Des Moines about seven years ago.
She had attended Iowa State University and was a member of the Progressive Study Club of Winterset, Delta Delta Delta Sorority and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Kay Darnell of Solana Beach, Calif., Sister Shelia Mulvihill of Chicago, Ill., and Suzanne Higdon of South Bend, Ind.; five sons, James J. of Ames, John P. of Tampa, Fla., Daniel F. of LaJolla, Calif., Mark M. of Des Moines and Robert J. of Cumming; a sister, Alice Kiernan of Des Moines; a brother, John Watts of Cumming; 32 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The rosary was recited Thursday evening at Dunn’s Funeral Home in Des Moines.
