Marion Graves Passes at Age 98

A resident of Madison County from 1910, Marion Rufus Graves, 98, died last Saturday, May 6, 1978, at Memorial Hospital. He was born February 17, 1880 in Stark County, Illinois, the son of Joseph S. and Mary Jane Whitten Graves.

Mr. Graves was a farmer, retired since 1948. He was married to Irma Gertrude Evans on December 19, 1906, at Princeville, Illinois. She preceded her husband in death on June 27, 1966.

Mr. Graves was affiliated with the Methodist church. He served as assessor for Lincoln township and was a member of the Madison County board of supervisors.

Survivors include a son, Robert D. Graves of Winterset; three daughters, Aileen E. Lee of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, Zella M. Edwards of Winterset and Helen G. Graves of Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Joseph Elza Graves of Princeville, Illinois; also eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Preceding Mr. Graves in death besides his wife, Irma, was a son, Harold E. Graves; his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services for Marion Graves were conducted Monday, May 8, at 2 p.m. from First United Methodist Church of Winterset with burial at the Winterset Cemetery. Rev. Byron W. Ayers officiated.
