Death of Mrs. S. J. Fahnestock

Mrs. S. J. Fahnestock died on Friday, Dec. 31st at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. E. Coon, who has been caring devotedly for her mother during many months of invalidism. A brief prayer service was held at the Coon home on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. N. C. Carpenter. The remains were taken to Des Moines, where burial took place on Monday in Glendale Cemetery.

Mrs. Fahnestock is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Bertha Coon, Mrs. Lulu Stahlgren of Des Moines; also three sons: Sheridan and Robert of Des Moines, and Joseph of Omaha. Mrs. Fahnestock was past 75 years of age and had lived in Des Moines for many years.

IOWA PIONEER DIES ON NEW YEAR’S EVE

Mrs. Eliza J. Fahnestock, 78 years old, one of the early settlers of Iowa, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Berta Coon of Winterset, Friday night. Mrs. Fahnestock came in a prairie schooner with her husband, S. J. Fahnestock, from Covington, O., in 1869.

She is survived by Mrs. Coon and another daughter, Mrs. Lulu Stohlgren of Des Moines, and three sons, Joseph L. of Omaha, Sheridan of Des Moines, Rupert, 1518 Second Street.

Funeral services will be at Selover and Hamilton undertaking parlors, at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery.
