Truro Man Killed Sunday

Everett Hayes, 25, of Truro, was killed Sunday, April 24 when the car he was driving struck a bridge railing about eight miles south of Stuart in Adair County.

Seriously injured in the accident was Gerry Jamison, teenage daughter of Wayne Jamison of Greenfield, a passenger in the car.

The accident occurred about 3:20 a.m. and was investigated by Officer John Novy of the Iowa Highway Patrol. He said the Hayes vehicle was southbound and struck the east bridge railing. The vehicle rolled into the ditch and burst into flames. Jamison managed to escape the car, Novy said.

Passersby reported the accident. The Stuart fire department and rescue unit were called to the scene with the Adair County Sheriff’s department.

Jamison was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services for Hayes were conducted Wednesday, April 27 at 2:00 p.m. from Kale Funeral Home in Truro with burial at Young Cemetery in Truro.

Hayes Death April 24

Everett Francis Hayes of Truro, son of Clarence and Lela Ilene Hendrickson Hayes, was killed in an automobile accident Sunday, April 24, 1977, in Adair County. He was 25 years of age, born May 29, 1951, in St. Charles.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 27 at 2 p.m. from Kale Funeral Home in Truro, Pastor Larry Wheatcraft of St. Charles officiating. Burial was made at the Young Cemetery, Truro.

Mr. Hayes was a 1969 graduate of Interstate 35 High School and a member of Eagles Lodge No. 3495 at Osceola. He was not married.

Surviving are his mother, Lela Hayes of Truro, and two sisters, Rhonda Hayes of Kansas City, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Janice) Hartfield of Des Moines.

Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

A Truro man, Everett Hayes, 25, was killed early Sunday in a one-car accident on an Adair County road about eight miles south of Stuart.

Another occupant of the car, Gerry Jameson, 18, of Truro, was injured and taken to a Des Moines hospital.

Authorities said the car struck a bridge rail and burst into flames.

Driver dies in accident

STUART—Everett Francis Hayes, 25, of Truro, was killed in a one-car accident on a rural Adair county road, about 8 1/2 south of Stuart, at 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

Gerry Jamison 18, of Truro, who was a passenger in the car, managed to free herself from the car, which had burst into flames, and crawled about 20 feet from the vehicle. She was taken by ambulance to the Adair county hospital at Greenfield and was transferred to a Des Moines hospital where she is reported in poor condition with multiple injuries and burns.

The state highway patrol said the car Hayes was driving ran off the roadway and hit a concrete bridge railroad and then into the ditch, where it burst into flames.
