Services Held For Ruth Gray
Miss E. Ruth Gray, 75, died Saturday, May 1st. Services were held Tuesday, May 4th, at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown with graveside services at 3 p.m. at the Peru Cemetery with Rev. Paul Bousfield officiating.
Miss Gray is survived by a sister, Mrs. Harry Smith of Winterset.

Ruth Gray Rites Tuesday
Services for Miss E. Ruth Gray, 75, a longtime Marshalltown elementary teacher, who died at her home Saturday, were Tuesday at 10:30 at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home.
The Rev. Walden Paige of the First United Methodist Church was in charge and Rebekah rites by members of Marshall Lodge 40 were also held. Graveside rites were held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Peru Cemetery, just south of St. Charles, with the Rev. Paul Bousfield in charge.
Miss Gray was born August 30, 1900 at St. Charles, the daughter of Charles E. and Harriet Rhyno Gray. She was reared and educated in the St. Charles area, graduating from St. Charles High School and furthering her education at Drake University in Des Moines, where she earned a master’s degree in education. She taught at St. Charles and at Melbourne, before coming to Marshalltown in 1934. She taught in the city’s elementary schools, retiring in 1965.
She was a member of the Elm Grove Methodist church in Peru, the Retired Teachers’ Association, and the Iowa State Education Association and the National Education Association, Theta Chi Sorority and Rebekah Marshall Lodge 40.
Survivors include two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Harry (Harriet) Smith, Winterset; Fred O. Gray, Rockport, Texas; Mrs. Arthur (Edna) Herzog, Melbourne; and Harry L. Gray, St. Charles.
