Rites for Eva Newton

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1, at 3:00 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Winterset for Eva Belle Cox Newton, who died Thursday, April 29, 1976, at the age of 84. Her death occurred at Madison Manor North in Winterset.

The daughter of Frank M. Cox and Sarah Jane Cox, Mrs. Newton was born November 13, 1891, in Madison County. Her marriage to Cady L. Newton took place April 2, 1935 in Ottumwa, Iowa.

A school teacher, Mrs. Newton held a life membership in the ladies auxiliary of the First United Methodist Church, was a member of the Red Cross for 46 years, also joined the Gray Ladies and was a 50 year member of Eastern Star.

Survivors include three step-sons, Kenneth Newton of Greenfield and Donald Newton and Phillip Newton, both of Winterset.

Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her husband, in 1959, and by her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Rev. Paul Bousfield officiated last Saturday’s services for Mrs. Newton. Burial was at the Fairview Cemetery in Madison County.
