EARL F. LOHR, Winterset, Iowa

Earl F. Lohr, son of the late Francis Michael and Maude Gibbs Lohr, was born Jan. 6, 1925, in Lucas County, Iowa. He passed away Jan. 7, 2013, at Winterset Care Center North, at 88 years of age.

A celebration of life service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19. Visitation will be prior to the service. Interment will be later in the Winterset Cemetery Garden of Memories Columbarium. Memorials are suggested to the Winterset United Methodist Church, or donor’s charity of choice.

As a young boy, he lived in Lucas County and later lived in Warren County before moving to Madison County. He graduated in 1942 from the Milo High School. To assist him with cattle shows and sales, he attended the American Institute of Business during a winter term to learn advertising. After the purchase of his first calf at a young age, raising Angus cattle became his passion and life occupation.

On March 17, 1957, he married Wanda Finney, and they resided on their farm in Webster Township, until moving to Winterset in 2002. Living on and having a concern for land and soil, he served a few years as commissioner for the Madison County Conservation Service. Before entering the care center, he was an active member of the Winterset United Methodist Church, and served in numerous capacities.

Earl is survived by his wife, Wanda of Winterset; nieces, Brenda Myers of Broken Arrow, Okla., Bonnie Shupe of Ankeny, and Brenda Koger of Malvern, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Erma Maxwell; and niece, Beverly Gough.

Arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home.
