Rites Held for Hallie Kaufman

Funeral services were held here this Tuesday, January 7, for Hallie Kaufman, a former resident of Winterset. Mrs. Kaufman died at Fort Collins, Colo. on Saturday, January 4, at the age of 74.

Hallie Kaufman was born near Milo on November 12, 1900, the daughter of John C. and Martha Long. She was married to Frank Kaufman of Indianola on May 11, 1918, and was preceded in death by him in 1965. At the time of his death, the Kaufmans owned and operated the K and K Laundromat in Winterset.

Mrs. Kaufman was a beautician for a number of years in Milo and Adel, and in later years was a housemother at the Delta Taw Delta Fraternity and Phi Beta Phi Sorority at Iowa State University. At the time of her death she was housemother at the Farm House Fraternity at Fort Collins, Colo.

Mrs. Kaufman was a member of the First Christian Church of Ames. She was a past matron of the Eastern Star and past chief of the Pythian Sisters, and was a member of Grey Ladies Organization.

Survivors include a son, John, of Fort Collins, Colo. and a daughter, Mrs. Karma Swanson of Duluth, Minn. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Collins Funeral Home in Winterset at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 7, with the Rev. Roy Key of Ames officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
