SARA ANN SMITH, WINTERSET

S. Ann Smith, 74, of Winterset died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013.

A Memorial Service will be held at Northward Plaza Community Room in Winterset on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. Ann donated her body to science at Des Moines University and her cremated remains will be privately buried in the Winterset Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

She was born on Jan. 18, 1938, in Savannah, Ga., to Rueben Cornelius and Lorraine Edith (Laux) Brinson. In 1945 she moved to Winterset, played basketball and graduated in 1956. She married Frank Bakerink and her daughter, Kelly, was born. Years later she married Richard Smith and moved to Des Moines and then to Altoona. They later divorced. Ann was employed with Kirke-Van Orsdel Insurance as a Data Processor for 17 years. She worked four years in the culinary area at Prairie Meadows and retired, moving back to Winterset.

Ann is survived by her daughter Kelly King; her granddaughters, Kendra Isola, Kristi Miller; her great-granddaughter, Andrea Forman; her sister, Dorothy Pettit; two step-brothers, Harold Brinson and Wayne Brinson and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Parkins and step-sister, Harriet Blanchard.

Arrangements are being handled by Brooks Funeral Care.
