Hold James A. Johnston Rites
James A. Johnston of Winterset, a barber here for the past 33 years, died at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines last Friday, October 11. He was 72 years of age.
James Avery Johnston was born at Kellerton, Iowa on September 15, 1902, the son of Robert D. and Lucy B. Daniels Johnston. He was married to Agnes M. Reynolds at Leon, Iowa on May 2, 1923.
Mr. Johnston spent a total of 55 years in the barbering profession.
He is survived by his wife, Agnes, and by three sons and five daughters: Donald Johnston of Winterset; Duane Johnston of Council Bluffs; Delbert Johnston of Winterset; Roberta Todd of Denver, Colorado; and Alberta McCauley, Annie Collins, Lucy Smith and Sharon Hope, all of Winterset.
Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. In addition, Mr. Johnston is survived by one sister, Mary Bollinger of Phoenix, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three infant sons, one daughter, three brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, with the Rev. Walter A. Samp and the Rev. Paul Bousfield officiating. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery.
