Wednesday, April 4, 1973Everett Secrest of Macksburg Dies
Everett Secrest, a well-known farmer in the Macksburg community, died Tuesday, March 27, at Iowa Methodist hospital in Des Moines. He was 72 years of age.
Mr. Secrest was a native of Wayne county, Illinois, where he was born May 26, 1900 a son of Curtis and Grace Van Fosson Secrest. He had lived in Madison county for 54 years.
He was married March 8, 1922, at Winterset, to Pearl Marston, who survives him.
Mr. Secrest was a member of the United Methodist church at Macksburg, serving on the board. He was president of the board of education of the Macksburg school in 1955, and for 10 years served with the sheep department of the Madison county fair.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Harry Stevens of Winterset; a son, Marvin Secrest of Altoona; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, Russell Secrest of Charlotte, Mich., and Leslie Secrest of Stuart, and four sisters, Mrs. Eva Marston of Joliet, Ill., Mrs. Leona Sprytze, of Farmington, Mich., Mrs. Geraldine Glenn of Archbold, O., and Mrs. Mary Searing of Joliet.
One son, Leland Secrest, preceded him in death in 1966.
Funeral services were held Friday from the Macksburg Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Willis Grant. Burial was made in Moon cemetery at Macksburg.
