Willis Clarke Dies at 71

Willis J. Clarke of Lincoln Township, a retired Madison County farmer, died Tuesday, March 27 at his home near Winterset. He was 71 years of age.

Mr. Clarke was a life-long resident of Madison County. He was born at St. Charles August 8, 1901, a son of Charles and Margaret Picken Clarke. He had retired from farming in 1971.

He was married April 25, 1924 at Winterset to Beatrice Downs who survives him.

Mr. Clarke was a member of the Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Ivan Clarke of St. Charles and Marvel Clarke of Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Baker of Indianola; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Clarke of Truro and Frank Clarke of Mt. Ayr; and a sister, Mrs. Agnes Crawford of San Diego, California.

Funeral services were held Friday from the Grace Baptist Church in Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Lon Reising. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.
